To determine the trend in environmental performance of the Australian Pork Industry.

Project summary

The project investigated GHG emissions and resource use per decade between 1980 and 2010 and predicted impacts to 2020 to determine the trend in environmental performance of the Australian Pork Industry.

Value for producers:

  • Demonstrates how industry progress has contributed to a reduction in environmental impact.
  • Improved ability to communicate and measure performance moving forward.

Key findings:
Since 1980, industry has achieved:

  • 44% improvement to feed conversion ratio
  • 69% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions
  • 80% reduction in water consumption
  • 58% reduction in fossil fuel use
  • 63% reduction in land occupation
