What's the global situation?

ASF reaches the Americas region

For the first time in 40 years, African Swine Fever (ASF) has been detected in the Dominican Republic, just weeks after spreading to domestic pigs in Germany in July.

The disease has spread over 11 provinces and is threatening borders with Haiti and Puerto Rico.

Despite tightening quarantine restrictions in the USA and Canada, the threat remains high as COVID-19 restrictions ease and travel opens up.

Containing the disease within the Dominican Republic will be key to protecting USA and Canadian trade access.
