Australian Pork Limited (APL), the Australian pork farming community and Aussie pork lovers have banded together with Coles to raise more than $6.7 million to help fight Motor Neurone Disease (MND); the largest amount raised in the four-year partnership.

The funds raised from the sale of around 100 fresh pork products in Coles supermarkets – including roasts, steaks, loin chops, mince and cutlets – along with Fight MND beanies has gone towards the FightMND 2021 Big Freeze7 campaign.

The $6.7 million raised by Aussie pork producers and Coles brings the total funds raised by Fight MND to $14.6 million.

Margo Andrae, Australian Pork Limited Chief Executive Officer, praised Australia’s farmers and lovers of quality pork for rallying around the vital cause. “The Aussie pork community has mobilised, showing that the only thing better than getting some pork on your fork is getting some pork on your fork for a cause,” Ms Andrae said.

“Two to three Australians are diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease every day; and the same number lose their fight to the disease each day. Our pork producers are extremely proud to be contributing to such a meaningful cause for the fourth year running, and the numbers show that we’re doing everything we can to raise the bar every year.”

FightMND is Australia’s largest independent organisation funding research towards finding effective treatment and ultimately a cure for MND - a disease which gradually takes away a person’s use of their arms and legs as well as their ability to eat, swallow, speak and ultimately breathe.
