Earlier this month, APL Animal Health Stewardship Manager Dr Raymond Chia attended the 8th International Symposium on Emerging and Re-emerging Pig Diseases (ISERPD) and the 5th International Workshop on Streptococcus suis (IWSs) conference held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Senior Research and Development Scientist, Dr Joanna Gerszon, from Genics also presented new APL-funded research into The Pork MultiPath (PMP) at the event. This project is investigating ways to help veterinarians and farmers test for pathogens in an easy, non-invasive, and cost-effective way.

These events provide a great opportunity for fellow professionals and researchers to exchange ideas on tackling issues around disease management faced by global pork industry's, and showcase APL-funded research.

The Streptococcus suis workshop also detailed research on the pathogen which poses a significant threat to pig health and productivity.

Dr Chia noted the event was an enriching experience, providing a platform to learn, collaborate and contribute to the advancement of pig disease management for the benefit of the Australian pork industry.
