Andrew Spencer, Chief Executive Officer
Mr Spencer commenced duties as APL's CEO on 21 July 2005.
Mr Spencer came to APL after a twenty year career in agribusiness, both in Australia and internationally. A large part of that time was spent in the agricultural chemical industry where he held marketing and general management roles in Australia, Germany and South Africa.
In 2000, Mr Spencer moved to France to work in the agricultural biotechnology and seeds markets, particularly in global cotton, canola and rice cropping segments. Andrew comes from an agricultural
upbringing. His family had cattle, sheep and cropping farms, resulting in his choice to complete a
degree in Agricultural Science.
Kathleen Plowman, General Manager Policy
In the transition period leading to the establishment of Australian Pork Limited, Ms Plowman held the position of acting CEO of the Pork Council of Australia, the Australian pork industry's previous producer representative body. During this time she managed and advanced the industry's interests through strategic policy development and implementation.
Prior to this Ms Plowman served as the policy director for the Pork Council of Australia. Ms Plowman also worked as policy director for the wool producer policy body, the Wool Council of Australia. She
began her career at the Reserve Bank of Australia and later worked in business management consulting
and training in the financial sector. Ms Plowman has a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the University
of New England and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Darryl D'Souza, General Manager Research and Innovation
Dr D'Souza completed his PhD studies in 1998, at the University of Melbourne, and he has worked in a variety of management roles within Australia's pig industry organisations. Before joining APL, Dr D'Souza was Asia-Pacific Technical Manager (Pigs) for Alltech Biotechnology, where he provided support to key accounts in the region. This included customising technical information, research and development, as well as coordinating the Premier Pig Program from the Asia-Pacific region.
Peter Haydon, General Manager Marketing
Mr Haydon has had extensive experience both internationally an locally in a wide variety of marketing roles. Prior to joining APL Mr Haydon was a Director of marketing consulting. His primary expertise in this position involved demand creation, portfolio and brand strategy with specialist experience in consumer communication, category management, new product development and pricing strategy and tactics.
In previous marketing positions Mr Haydon has had experience in developing brands for Kraft and
Cadbury, creating and implementing sales and marketing global best practice for Lion Nathan and
as General Manager Marketing for Cerebos ANZ.
Christine Quick, General Manager Finance and Administration
Mrs Quick commenced with APL in June 2003 as Finance Manager and has acted as Chief Financial Officer for five months in 2004 and from April to November 2005 at which time the board endorsed her promotion to General Manager, Finance and Administration.
Mrs Quick also holds the position of Company Secretary. Prior to commencing with APL Mrs Quick spent several years working in private practice in taxation and business services, before being appointed National Finance and Administration Manager for the Australian Property Institute which is
also a Not for Profit member organisation.
Mrs Quick has a Diploma of Business (Accounting) and is currently studying Bachelor of Business
(Accounting) through Charles Sturt University.
Emily Mackintosh, General Manager Communication
Ms Mackintosh manages APL's and the Australian pork industry's public image through the development of a professional and positive industry and corporate profile. This requires strategic management of APL's media relations through related events, publications, membership services, communication tools and technologies.
Ms Mackintosh has spent most of her career in Australia's rural industries, initially graduating from
Hawkesbury Agricultural College and joining the ABC Rural Department as a rural officer and
journalist. From there she has worked with organisations such as the Wool Corporation and The
Australian Meat and Livestock Corporation in senior media and communication roles, as well as
co-owning a sheep, cattle and mixed farming enterprise. She also brings to the position extensive
experience in project management and general business operations, having worked in private
enterprise and large state government organisations in senior communication positions.
