Elected Directors
Mr Aeger Kingma

Mr Kingma has been involved in the Australian pig industry for the past 19 years. During this time he has performed a number of different roles. These include President of the Victorian Farmers' Federation Pig Group (2002-04, 2007), Director of Auspork Ltd, and member of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (Ministerial appointment). He is currently part owner/manager of Gunpork Joint Venture. Mr Kingma is on the Audit, Risk and Corporate Governance, Feed Grains and Animal Welfare Committees.
Mr John Coward
Mr Coward has over 40 years of experience in the Pork industry, including 10 years as managing director of Swickers and as chairman of the Burnett Pork Alliance.
Currently, Mr Coward works as a pork industry consultant and is president of Pork Queensland Inc.
Mr Andrew Johnson 
Currently owner/ manager of Mt Boothby Past Co, a mixed family farming operation comprising a 1700 sow farrow to finish operation in the mid north and south east regions of South Australia. Twenty one years experience in the pork industry, been active in assisting and educating family farms with modern production methods. Board member of Top Pork for 9 years. 2005 Nuffield Scholar and successfully completed “Challenge of Rural Leadership” Worshipful Company of Farmers UK. Director of the Australian Nuffield Farming Scholars Association. Enjoys the challenges confronting family farms, for a viable and sustainable future.
Dr Brian Luxford
Dr Luxford has been employed at Rivalea, the largest Australian pork producer, since 1988 and has managed the Research and Innovation for the past 11 years. The position covers technical
support and research and management across all sectors of the supply chain: feed milling, pig production, pig processing and new product development. Over the period Dr Luxford has also
served as an APL Delegate and served on a number of APL research committees. He currently chairs the Genetics, Welfare and Reproduction Advisory Group, was a member of both the Pork CRC steering committees and is Program Manager for Program 2 in the new CRC. Prior to the formation of APL Dr Luxford was a director of the Pig Research and Development Corporation and for ten years was a director of PrimeGro, a biotech company based in Adelaide.
Mr David Plant 
As General Manager of Monogastric production and a member of the Executive Board for Milne AgriGroup Mr Plant is responsible for budgeting, profitability and strategic development of the pigs, chicken and turkey businesses and works closely with the marketing team on branding and new product development. Mr Plant has been an APL Delegate for two years and with his passion for the pig industry and knowledge of high welfare production systems was also elected as a panel member for the Extensive Producers Committee. Mr Plant is also a Director of Harvey Pork Gourmet Foods.
Specialist Directors
Mr Enzo Allara (Chairman)
Mr Allara has been involved in the food and grocery industry both in Australia and internationally for over 40 years with most of that time being with the Unilever Group of companies. His previous roles have included Chairman CPC/AJI Asia in Hong Kong and Chairman of Unilever Australasia. He is currently Chairman of Foodbank Australia and a Director of Pork CRC, Food Science Australia, Foodbank Victoria, National Food Industry Strategy Ltd and a Member of the National Food Industry Council. He has served on numerous industry and Government bodies including the Prime Minister's Supermarket to Asia Council, as well as Chairman of the Australian Food and Grocery Council. Mr Allara is on the Board HR & Remuneration and Market Development Committees.
Mrs Kathy Grigg
Melbourne based specialist director Mrs Kathy Grigg has a background in finance and operational management. She is currently the Chair of CoINVEST Ltd, a director of Navy Health Ltd, Chair of the Audit Committee of the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation and a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee of Melbourne Health. Previously she has held positions as Deputy Chair of the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation and Southern Health, and Chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee for Berren Asset Management Ltd. She was formerly Finance Director of the Woolmark Company/Australian Wool Research and Promotion Corporation. Kathy is a fellow of CPA Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Dr Robert van Barneveld
Dr van Barneveld is a Consultant Research Scientist specialising in nutrition of pigs, poultry and fish. He has been actively involved in the pork industry for 18 years and has a range of current roles including General Manager of the CHM Alliance Pty Ltd. He is a Director of the Pork CRC Ltd, a past President of the Australasian Pig Science Association and is currently Chairman of the Board of Autism Queensland Inc. Dr van Barneveld holds adjunct Associate Professor status at the University of New England and the University of Queensland. He has been awarded the Australian Society of Animal Production Young Scientist Award, the Batterham Memorial Award and the Nutrition Society of Australia Research Award. Dr van Barneveld chairs the Board R&I Committee and the Pan Pacific Pork Expo Committee. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Mrs Kay Carey
Mrs Carey is Manager Industry Liaison of the University of NSW, Co-op Scholarship Program. She liaises with many of Australia's leading companies to partner with UNSW in the development of top-performing students and involves active participation in the leadership training and professional development of these students. Mrs Carey's current positions include Board member of Peter Lehmann Wines and Board member of the International Advertising Association. Other positions Mrs Carey has held include Brand Development Director Unilever Australasia, Food Director Unilever Indonesia and Chairman Unilever Singapore.
Company Secretary
Mrs Christine Quick
Mrs Quick has acted as company secretary since 23 November 2005. She is responsible for financial management and reporting, HR and payroll, internal policies and procedures, information and communication technology, office administration, company secretarial and corporate governance assistance to the Board and CEO; and Board and Audit Committee reporting. Mrs Quick commenced with APL in June 2003 as Finance Manager and acted as Chief Financial Officer for five months in 2004 and again from April to November 2005 at which time the Board endorsed her promotion to General Manager, Finance and Administration and Company Secretary. Prior to commencing with APL Mrs Quick spent several years working in private practice in taxation and business services, before being
appointed National Finance and Administration Manager for the Australian Property Institute. Mrs Quick
has a Diploma of Business (Accounting), is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors
and is currently studying Bachelor of Business (Accounting) through Charles Sturt University.
