Australian Pork

Producers

Producers and representative groups are encouraged to apply for funding to facilitate the gathering of information and adoption of new technologies.

Group Demonstration Awards

Group Demonstration Awards assist individual producers with common interests to form an association in order to address issues associated with production or key industry concerns. Demonstration of on-farm practices and other eligible activities will enhance producer profitability and sustainability.

Commercial Validation Awards

Commercial Validation Awards encourage producers to validate new information/technologies by helping offset some of the costs associated with trialling new technology. Sharing findings from commercial validation will assist other producers in the decision making process surrounding technology adoption.

Distinguished Visitor Awards

Distinguished Visitor Awards assist producer groups with hosting guest speakers to present information and extend research outcomes. Invited guests include both local experts and highly regarded international speakers who can provide producers with different perspectives and foster the enthusiasm required to adopt new technologies.

Proposed projects gor Group Demonstration, Commercial Validation and Distinguished Visitor Awards need to be aligned with APL's current R & D priorities and all applications to be lodged through PigNet.

Ron Collins Memorial Travel Award
Producers and industry stakeholders are encouraged to apply for the Ron Collins Memorial Travel Award, in memory of the late Ron Collins, former owner, editor and publisher of the Australian Pork Newspaper, and co-founder of the Pan Pacific Pork Expo concept. This award provides an opportunity for overseas travel to undertake research/or a study tour in an area relevant to the Australian pork industry. This biennial award will be next open for application in January 2010, to be presented at the Pan Pacific Pork Expo in June 2010.  Application forms are available from the PPPE website.

Nuffield Scholarships
The Nuffield Australia Farming Scholarships encourage Australian primary producers to adopt local and international best practices. Generic industry categories enable pork producers to apply for a scholarship to the value of $27 000. Scholars participate in the Global Focus Program where they spend six weeks overseas investigating agricultural marketing, trade, production and environmental issues, and a further ten weeks studying a topic of their choice. For further information, visit the Nuffield website or call 03 5480 0755.

Australian Rural Leadership Program
Producers and industry stakeholders are encouraged to apply for the Australian Rural Leadership Program, a unique opportunity for rural and regional leaders to undertake a program of personal growth and develop the skills, knowledge and networks needed to be effective in regional, state, national and international arenas. The program comprises a part-time course of 59 days, conducted over 16 months and each course takes in approximately 35 participants through a competitive selection process. For further information, visit the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation website or call 02 6281 0680.
